We have been receiving many questions about the events leading to Dad's passing. Here is a brief summary for those who are wondering.
Dad was a very healthy individual leading into May 5th. He awoke that morning feeling slightly ill and went to the doctor for a check-up. He was diagnosed with a simple bladder infection and given antibiotics to treat the infection.
The illness unexpectedly progressed extremely quickly and by the next day Dad was admitted to the ICU for sepsis. He then had a severe allergic reaction to one of the antibiotics, which required a breathing tube to be inserted.
The infection was successfully treated over the course of the next week. While other complications arose, the biggest hurdle for the medical team was waiting until his neck swelling decreased so that the breathing tube could be taken out. By May 20th, Dad was fully awake and alert but was physically very weak. The breathing tube was scheduled to be taken out the next day.
On the morning of May 21st, Dad went into sudden cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, the loss of oxygen during the arrest caused severe, irreversible damage to his brain and he did not awaken from his coma over the coming weeks.
On June 13th, Dad passed away peacefully in a hospice home. He was 69.
We miss him dearly.
